The Swiss Pastry Shop Hits the Spot

Do you have friends or acquaintances that give you straightforward answers? Me too. Would you like to have food that did the same? Nothing fancy, simply what you read on the menu is what will be on your plate. Well, I found just the place.  The Swiss Pastry Shop is such a place. Serving up breakfast and lunch Tuesday thru Saturday right off of Vickery Blvd west from Montgomery St. I went with my wife, oldest daughter, and our neighbor bright and early on this Saturday morning. I wanted to catch the place as it opened and enjoy some fresh treats. What immediately caught my attention is that it’s a place regulars go. The friendly staff knew guest after guest and greeted them by name as they strolled in. It is not a place that will make your eyes explore, the décor is simple and plain. Except for when you walk in and you’re greet by displays of eye catching pastries. To me, this is better than any reprint foux Picasso or over done western art explosion on the wall.

I had the meat omelet with ham and provolone and instead of toast I chose to go for the biscuits and gravy. My omelet was good, as I said simple, straightforward food. The gravy was from scratch and had a nice silky flow, perhaps it could have used a tad more salt, but it was good. It came with two fresh baked biscuits that were nice and fluffy, the kind you’d like to give a hug to. My coffee was refreshed accordingly and we all enjoyed our time there. We purchased some pastries on the way out and this is where you get your bang for your buck. Lovely edible food art, the kind that makes your mouth water prior to the first bite and your taste buds fall in love.

Overall it is worth your time to eat, taste, explore, and try the different pastries going on at The Swiss Pastry Shop. Make sure to check hours and plan accordingly. They are closed on Sunday and Monday, but worth the wait for an early morning Tuesday run. Enjoy

Jam It !!

I am relatively sure we all have a variety of condiments in our refrigerator and tucked back on our pantry shelves, many we haven’t opened in months, or perhaps years. Like that bottle of ketchup you purchased when you first moved into where you’re currently living (going on three years now). Don’t you simply wish that the little extras you bought to add flavor to your food would be so good you’d use it as fast as the light goes out in the refrigerator once the door is closed? Well, don’t you?

I thought so. Then I would strongly recommend you snatch up a jar or two of Seed & Salvage’s strawberry jam. It’s made just as my grandma made it, pure and simple. However, Sarah Junek has added a bit of lemon and basil, yup basil. It is delectable, you get the sweetness from the strawberries, and the basil gives you a bit of a savory herbal tone that hits your palate with joy. Sarah has created some other lovely items; like her hot pickles and lemon confit, each ready to excite your taste buds. Plus, if you return the jar you just licked clean she’ll give you a buck off your next purchase. It is a lovely circle of food life.

You can reach Sarah Junek at 817-781-5239, email: sarahjunek@me.com, web page: seedandsalvage.com, or look for her out at the Southside Urban Market in Fort Worth. Enjoy

I Found Godly Treats on The Near Southside in Fort Worth!!

After getting my cappuccino fix at Avoca Coffee on Magnolia Ave my wife and I took some time Saturday morning to hit the near Southside vendors on the corner of S. Main street and E. Daggett Ave (They're out there most Saturday mornings). What I love about the near Southside is that it is truly up and coming. People with a real vision or snatching up very affordable property and making the neighborhood quite hip and exciting. What really gets my mind & stomach going is the food being created, food that makes my mind sizzle, and food that makes my stomach feel as if it is having an affair on the rest of my body. We are talking visual and tasty stuff going on here.

Today's treat I will share with you comes from Fianco a Fianco. Owner Robyn Schwartz has fused together two of my favorite things; cheese and cookies. Displayed so lovely on the table were an awesome selection of cookies with different cheeses. There was the Feta with dried cantaloupe and almonds, the Camembert with dried kiwi, and Gorgonzola with hazelnuts and honey to just name a few. As I read each one my mouth began to water. I felt like a crack-head that needed a fix; only my fix was the Brie cookie with candied chestnuts and chocolate. OH MY GOD!!! Can you say heaven? The contents of the bag are now gone, and looking back I should have bought a few more. But, this gives me something to look forward to. For $8.00 a bag it was more than worth it and I can't wait until I indulge in the other flavors. You need not wait for me though, go find her and get your fix ASAP!

Enjoy, my friends and look out for my next blog when I'll share with you some killer Jam. That's right "Jam", watch out smuckers. :)
